Materia emerged from the collaborative vision of Kevin Merlini (CEO) and Lucas Adams (CTO), whose paths first crossed at Facebook. Fostered within the innovative ecosystem of the Allen Institute for AI in the fall of 2022, Materia was born.

We are pioneering a new class of software designed to enhance productivity and augment a broad spectrum of tasks for professionals in large accounting firms.

Our vision is for Materia to serve as the default AI agent workflow orchestration layer for the accounting profession. We are building a broadly capable AI system by integrating firm knowledge & context with robust domain specific reasoning & capabilities.

We offer a dynamic ChatGPT-style application enriched with authoritative accounting insights. It responds to complex queries precisely, cites relevant sources, and integrates this knowledge into accounting practices.

Looking ahead, our vision extends to establishing Materia as the essential AI-driven knowledge and orchestration layer throughout the accounting sector.
